Over 300 years ago, the Italian Johann Maria Farina created a new fragrance which he named EAU DE COLOGNE. It was the first use of bergamot and other citrus oils with pure alcohol that made this fresh scent possible. It marks the beginning of modern perfumery.
During the Rococo era, EAU DE COLOGNE conquered the European courts. The Emperor in Vienna, the Kings of Prussia, the King of France loved it. The long list of famous customers also includes Emperor Napoleon with his family, Goethe, Queen Victoria, and Empress Elisabeth (Sisi). Farina made Cologne famous as a city of fragrance, and due to its success, the Farina fragrance became the namesake of an entire class of fragrances. The original EAU DE COLOGNE is still produced today in Cologne by the descendants of the eighth generation. It is the world's oldest existing perfume house. "Eau de Cologne" tells the story of how the family business has always kept up with the times since 1709 and enriched the international world of fragrances.
